6: Aliens! (5)

7: NEGST life (4)

8: Bonfire night! (4)

We had a nice welcome evening as all the other students introduced us to campus life with a cracking bonfire and some 'nyama chomba' - barbecued beef. Lovely! Oh yes, and it's raining rather a lot.

9: Mid-term exams etc (4)

No photos of the exams! But this is us skyping home some time afterwards having survived!

11: Loads of reading (5)

12: Finishing up (2)

As we finish up the term, some nice shots out of our living room window of a moonlit student block... much nicer because of the power cut we had at the time.

15: Nairobi to Nigeria (11)

16: Visiting in Jos (5)

For just over 2 weeks we're in Nigeria visiting friends involved in similar work that we'd like to get involved with later. Here's a few pictures from our first few days in Jos as we see around various places and meet friends old and new.

17: Northern Nigeria (4)

At the end of our time visiting friends in Nigeria we were further north where David had lived in 2001, travelling with the same people he then had worked with. It involved quite a lot of driving - about 1400km in total - but was a very useful time and especially lovely for David to see familiar old places and people.

24: Back in Nairobi (4)

Oops - lots of things have come up in the last few weeks and it's made getting photos online a losing priority! Here's something to keep you going though.

25: Agnes Visiting (8)

What a joy to have a friend from home visit!

26: Peace Declared, Praise God (1)

28: Nyama Choma BBQ time (6)

What better way to banish the end-of-term blues than to gather the guys around, slaughter a goat, cut it up, roast it, and enjoy an evening of manly activity! We had a load of fun. And goat is lovely!

29: Presentation Time (7)

In some of our classes as well as working on essays and preparing for tests and exams, we had to present some of our research to the rest of the class. So, here we were last week explaining intricacies of grammar in various languages.

36: Holiday Snaps (4)

Photos from our holiday time between terms, and visits of friends

37: More Visits (3)

39: Negotiation Ceremony (3)

We got to go to a bride-price negotiation ceremony for a friend of ours who is getting married soon.

41: Extra-curricular! (11)

Some photos from the Run for the Bibleless a couple of weeks ago, and the bride-price negotiations.

42: End of term (8)

We had a nice bonfire party at the end of term with the translation students. Still have exams to go though! And Mission department led us in a lively Mission-themed chapel time this week.

44: Graduation (11)

After a hectic final few weeks of research, papers and exams our first year came to a close, marking the mid point of our studies here in Nairobi. And amid a frenzy of fun socialising with different groups, graduation happened a week ago. That was a colourful affair, with a row of flags from the different nations represented fluttering above the tents in which probably over 1000 people (eventually) sat to watch. By the time the programme officially started, about half an hour late, only half of the seats were filled, but by the time it finished 3 hours later, the place was packed and overflowing. Children of some of the students led in the procession of professors and graduands with a colourful impressive dance. Black gowns and mortar-boards were all around
