Dr. Taylor-Pearce, the first African principal of NEGST, served from 1986-1993. During a recent campus visit, he said, “When I came, NEGST looked like a farm. I had big dreams for NEGST and I am now looking at a dream come true.”

Twenty-five years ago, the three small buildings in a row in the back of this photo comprised the whole of NEGST. Now these former chicken coops are slated for demolition as part of our effort to gain university status from the Kenyan government.

Florence started work at NEGST in 1984; she glued call numbers on books to set up a paper-based card catalogue. Now, students check out books with a scanner and renew books from a distance using text messages or email.

Did you know that Mr. Tony Wilmot, the first principal of NEGST was once the British Ambassador to Somalia? Did you also know that the entire school ate their lunches at his home, which is now the nursery school?
