Faculty Focus: Peter Mathenge, “It’s my joy when I see people transformed”.

Peter Mathenge works for the Undergraduate- CMP department as a part time lecturer. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Egerton University , Master of Arts in Christian education from Africa International University and he is currently pursuing a Master of Philosophy at Africa International University .

He also corrects all thesis collected in AIU, so that they are standardized and ready to be used as resources in the AIU library.

Mr. Mathenge, what is your teaching philosophy?

“Knowledge is inbuilt in people, and the work of the teacher is to empower them to achieve their goals”. I chose this philosophy because I enjoy teaching adults and when I see transformation in them, it gives me great joy.

David Njuguna works for the Undergraduate- CMP department as a part time lecturer. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Theology from EAST and is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity in Christian Education at Africa International University.

Mr. Njuguna, what is your teaching philosophy?

“Everyone can learn as long as they are shown how to learn.” I chose this philosophy because I believe that each person has a God-given potential that can be released given appropriate nurturing.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about taking basic theological training to the pastors and church leaders that are; willing to study but they are not able to pay for their training, willing to study but they too busy for full-time studies, and those who are negative about theological training due to ignorance/misinformation – for this group I am thinking of planning for a program of study that will not bear the “offensive names” such as ‘Bible college’ yet the knowledge dispensed Read the full story »

Faculty Focus: Dr. Mark Olander and his interests in areas of discipleship and teacher education.

Dr. Mark Olander is a lecturer in the educational studies department. He has a PhD in Educational Studies from Trinity International University (USA). He is passionate about enjoying life with his wife, disciple making, training teachers, playing the guitar, and participating in sports.

Dr. Olander, what is your teaching philosophy?

I see my role as a teacher primarily as one of a facilitator. God has given me as a teacher the incredible privilege of helping my students grow in their Christian character, their theological knowledge, and their ministry skills.  In the process of teaching, I am also learning from my students. My goal is to help my students become disciples making Christians who love God wholeheartedly and serve him faithfully.

My theological beliefs (e.g. man is made in the image of God; God’s word is truth; the Holy Spirit is our teacher; etc…) inform my educational philosophy.

What are you research interests?

Faculty Focus: Rev. Phil Morrison: dedicated to training church leaders

Phil is serving as the director of The Multi-Church Pastor Institute, a field initiative of The Institute for the Study of African Realities, a constituent school of Africa International University. The Multi-Church Pastor Institute is dedicated to training pastors and church leaders who are serving in a multi-church context and focuses on the untrained and under trained who are often the ones providing pastoral ministry for the churches under their care.

Phil is a regular speaker at pastors’ conferences and Bible colleges throughout Africa.  He is the author of The Multi-Church Pastor which is also available in Swahili, French and Portuguese.  His other books are Seven Surprises for the Pastor, and Questions Pastors Ask. He earned his B.S. in Bible from Philadelphia Biblical University and his M.Div. from Biblical Seminary. Mrs. Francisca Ngala holds a bachelor of education degree from Moi University. She is professionally trained as a teacher and, before coming to NEGST, she taught English and literature in high school for twelve years. On coming to NEGST, she acquired a Master of Divinity in Christian education and now is pursuing a Master of Philosophy in Christian Education at NEGST. Currently Francisca works for three Undergraduate Departments at Africa International University where she teaches in the bachelor of psychology and counseling programme, the bachelor of theology programme and the Christian ministries programme.

Faculty Focus: Andy Alo, changing people for the betterment of the world

Andy Alo serves in the translation department of the School of Professional Studies as a part-time lecturer. His first degree was in education, with a focus on French and Latin; his second degree was also in education, still majoring in French. Later on, he pursued a masters in translation studies, doing his PhD in the same department.

Andy, what is your teaching philosophy?

Knowledge is power meant to lead us toward the ideals of “the truth, the good, and the beautiful” for a better humanity in a better world, reflecting God’s rule.

I do not do what I do for money alone. I want to contribute to the betterment of the world around us. I believe knowledge can change people. A good and true knowledge can change them for better thinking and consequently better behaviour and actions in life.
